Possible changes to mental health systems to be discussed at upcoming forum - UpperMichigansSource.com

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will discuss possible changes to the state’s mental health systems at an upcoming forum in Marquette.

People with mental health conditions currently receive physical health benefits from a Medicaid funded program, and behavioral health benefits from a Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan.

The new plan creates one plan for patients, called a Specialty Integrated Plan. It’s meant to reduce complexity and lower barriers to care.

For Pathways Community Mental Health, the proposal would create changes they want their patients to know about.

“Of course, we’ll be there, and we’ll be representing our concerns and what I believe are the concerns of the people that we serve. But they also really need to hear from folks that use the system and are the big vital part of it,” said Mary Swift, CEO of Pathways Community Mental Health.

The forum will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Marquette Senior High School.
